Hi,
I’m trying to build Paraview using ninja on cmake but I have this error :

CMake Error at superbuild/cmake/SuperbuildUtils.cmake:45 (message):
CMAKE\_BUILD\_TYPE must be one of: Release, RelWithDebInfo.
Call Stack (most recent call first):
superbuild/CMakeLists.txt:25 (include)

How do you fix that ?

</div>

You need to set the CMAKE\_BUILD\_TYPE variable in CMake. The superbuild doesn’t default this to anything, you must choose one. 🙂 Use the CMake UI or `cmake -DCMAKE_BUILD_TYPE:STRING=Release` on the command line to set this.

I have a new error now :
Unreconized MSVC version: 1913 (I have started cmake from Visual studio x64 2017 console otherwise ninja does’t work)

How do I solve this ?

I’m not 100% sure. Does the error have a line number and file?

It could be one of two things:

1. Your CMake is too old to support 2017
2. The ParaView superbuild doesn’t support 2017 (I think this is more likely)

Building with 2017 is still relatively unexplored territory so you may run into more errors. However you can use the 2015 toolchain with 2017 (this is how our nightly binaries are built and _should_ work).

error solved by adding

> elseif (NOT MSVC\_VERSION VERSION\_GREATER 1913)
> set(msvc\_ver 15.0)

in boost.cmake

I have new errors now 😓

Warning that appears mutliple times:

> CMake Warning at C:/Program Files/CMake/share/cmake-3.11/Modules/FindBoost.cmake:587 (message):
> Imported targets and dependency information not available for Boost version
> (all versions older than 1.33)

> superbuild/CMakeLists.txt:147 (superbuild\_process\_dependencies)

Errors:

> CMake Error at C:/Program Files/CMake/share/cmake-3.11/Modules/FindBoost.cmake:2044 (message):

> superbuild/cmake/SuperbuildMacros.cmake:872 (include)
> superbuild/CMakeLists.txt:147 (superbuild\_process\_dependencies)

I think that’s due to what I’ve done earlier /\

> CMake Error at superbuild/projects/tbb.system.cmake:1 (find\_package):
> By not providing “FindTBB.cmake” in CMAKE\_MODULE\_PATH this project has

In the parameters : TBB\_DIR-NOTFOUND

The errors are because CMake is trying to find `boost` and `TBB` on your system and it can’t find them. You need to get a MSVC 2017-compatible version of TBB and boost installed on your system and set the variables indicated (`BOOST_ROOT` and `TBB_DIR`) so that CMake can find these libraries.

I’m not sure about the warning.
