Hi

I have the time averaged X,Y,Z velocity of a pipe flow and I have exported them into paraview format. Now i want to draw the vectors on the plane or cross-section of the pipe with my time averaged vectors field. I have created a calculator as: ihat_xvel+jhatyvel+khat_\*zvel, and using surface vectors but it is not plotting them. What is the issue?

I am also seeing a weird thing where I can see both the surface vectors and the axial vectors, but i want to see only the surface vectors.

I’m not totally sure I understand what you want to do. By “draw the vectors.” I assume you mean that you want to have little arrows or something like that pointing in the direction of the flow. If that is the case, then **Glyph** is the filter you are looking for. The steps you need for that are:

1. Combine the component fields into a vector field. The way you are doing it with the **Calculator** filter is fine. Recent versions of ParaView also have a filter named **Merge Vector Components** that makes this process a little easier.
2. Add the **Slice** filter ![Screenshot 2026-08-10 at 8.40.36 AM|x33](https://discourse.paraview.org/uploads/default/original/3X/c/3/c3a8be376d6cbcf4cc44866bca6ba8ed33d6725e.png) and position the slice plane at the cross section of the pipe where you want to see the vector field.
3. Add the **Glyph** filter ![Screenshot 2026-08-10 at 8.41.57 AM](https://discourse.paraview.org/uploads/default/original/3X/0/2/026555bd50d4a4ca2d8ba9cddd4ceaec2e223c39.png) and select your vectors to orient and (optionally) scale the arrows. You may also need to modify the **Scale Factor** to get them sized right.

Yes but how to draw the vectors on the cross-section. For that I draw glyph on surface vectors and do constraint mode parallel. Is that fine?
