# How to overlay 2D SHP files on a 3D surface

Is it possible to overlay a 2D SHP file onto a separate 3D surface, so it shows up in the correct 3D space? For example, I have a 2D SHP file of geologic fault traces and have an unstructured grid with the grid top representing the land surface elevation. Can I instruct PV to display the 2D fault traces so they follow the topography of the unstructured grid?

Rather than trying to figure this out in PV, I just converted my 2D SHP file into a 3D SHP file in ArcMap. The 3D SHP file came into PV just fine.
