# Paraview 5.9 Freezes when opening python shell

I’m running Ubuntu 20.04

I downloaded the Paraview .tar.gz file from the Downloads page and extracted into a directory inside Downloads. When I run the `paraview` executable within `bin/` the GUI appears and works well until I open the Python shell view. As soon as I click in the shell, Paraview freezes and can only be closed by killing it. This happens for both 5.9.0 and 5.9.1. Is this a bug, or is just my setup? Paraview 5.8 doesn’t have this problem.

Sounds like something in your environnement is breaking ParaView python interpreter.  
I’d check any python env var like `PYTHONPATH`.

Ubuntu 20.04 LTS  
python3.8

pvpython works
