# paraview vs paraview-real?

Hi, just a quick question:

What is the difference between the applications `paraview` and `paraview-real`? (Or `pvpython` vs. `pvpython-real`)

The non-`-real` binaries are “[launchers](https://gitlab.kitware.com/paraview/paraview-superbuild/-/blob/master/launchers/launcher.cxx)” that process OpenGL- and MPI-related environment and set up the environment appropriately before launching the `-real` binary.
