# \`triage\` tags

Is there an assumption that every issue gets a `triage` tag?

I think so, thats a way to show that an issue has been acknowledged by the maintainers and is not just “out there” and ignored.

I think there are other ways to acknowledge that don’t require a triage label such as thanking the reporter, labeling the issue with an `area` label, confirming an issue, etc. I’m resistant to adding process unless there is a clear case for doing so, so I’d be against codifying a _requirement_ to add `triage` labels to incoming issues.
That said, an `area:infrastructure` or `area:ci` label for the issue in my original post seems like a perfectly fine thing to add.

of course, adding “areas” is perfectly fine.
But a clear case for having a systematic triage is to easily identify issue that have not been triaged.
