I tried to install ParaView-5.9.1 in Ubuntu but cannot launch. Initially it was giving QT error:
qt.qpa.xcb: could not connect to display
qt.qpa.plugin: Could not load the Qt platform plugin “xcb” in “” even though it was found.
This application failed to start because no Qt platform plugin could be initialized. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.
Available platform plugins are: xcb.
error: exception occurred: Child aborted

I tried to reinstall QT and don’t know not it is giving other errors as attached in the image.

Although I can launch the ParaView by using paraview --mesa.
But its giving warning
qt:qpa.xcb: X server does not support XInput 2
VisRTX 0.1.6, using devices:
0: Quadro RTX 8000
Could you please advise

Thanks

I use following steps:

**1.Compile**

```auto
sudo gedit ~/.bashrc
export PATH=$PATH:/opt/ParaView-5.9/bin/
```

**2. Terminal access**

```auto
sudo ln -s /opt/ParaView-5.9/bin/paraview /usr/bin/paraview
sudo ln -s /opt/ParaView-5.9/lib/paraview-5.9/ /usr/lib/paraview-5.9
```

**3. Launcher icon**
`sudo gedit /usr/share/applications/paraview.desktop`

```auto
[Desktop Entry]
Version=1.0
Name=ParaView 5.9
Exec=paraview
Terminal=false
Icon=/opt/ParaView-5.9/share/icons/hicolor/96x96/apps/paraview.png
Type=Application
x-Ayatana-Desktop-Shortcuts=NewWindow
[NewWindow Shortcut Group]
Name=New Window
Exec=paraview
TargetEnvironment=Unity
```

But no I restarted the machine and I cannot run paraview even using --mesa. I am getting following error attached.

Any specific reason why you are not using the binary release from [paraview.org](http://paraview.org) ?

I resolve the issue, I can access the paraview through UBUNTU Workstation but when I am trying to launch paraview through X2go remotely, I cannot access it. It is giving me the following error.

I even tried the paraview 3.14.1 but this is giving follwoing error.

How can I update it in UBUNTU 20.04.
May I request if you could share a link, please? I’m not sure about the OpenGl.

Hi all,

If I remember well, few years ago Mathieu W. has found a way to debug the issue. He said :" It looks like there is actually some issues with freetype and fontconfig ".

1-Method
\<\<$ QT\_DEBUG\_PLUGINS=1 ./bin/paraview
QFactoryLoader::QFactoryLoader() checking directory path “/home/glow/work/paraview/other/ParaView-5.6.0-Linux-64bit/lib/plugins/platforms” …
QFactoryLoader::QFactoryLoader() looking at “/home/glow/work/paraview/other/ParaView-5.6.0-Linux-64bit/lib/plugins/platforms/libqxcb.so”
Found metadata in lib /home/glow/work/paraview/other/ParaView-5.6.0-Linux-64bit/lib/plugins/platforms/libqxcb.so, metadata=
{
“IID”: “org.qt-project.Qt.QPA.QPlatformIntegrationFactoryInterface.5.3”,
“MetaData”: {
“Keys”: [
“xcb”
]
},
“className”: “QXcbIntegrationPlugin”,
“debug”: false,
“version”: 329985
}

Got keys from plugin meta data (“xcb”)
QFactoryLoader::QFactoryLoader() checking directory path “/home/glow/work/paraview/other/ParaView-5.6.0-Linux-64bit/lib/platforms” …
Cannot load library /home/glow/work/paraview/other/ParaView-5.6.0-Linux-64bit/lib/plugins/platforms/libqxcb.so: (/usr/lib/libfontconfig.so.1: undefined symbol: FT\_Done\_MM\_Var)
QLibraryPrivate::loadPlugin failed on “/home/glow/work/paraview/other/ParaView-5.6.0-Linux-64bit/lib/plugins/platforms/libqxcb.so” : “Cannot load library /home/glow/work/paraview/other/ParaView-5.6.0-Linux-64bit/lib/plugins/platforms/libqxcb.so: (/usr/lib/libfontconfig.so.1: undefined symbol: FT\_Done\_MM\_Var)”
This application failed to start because it could not find or load the Qt platform plugin “xcb”
in “”.

Available platform plugins are: xcb.

Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.
Aborted (core dumped) \>\>

2-Solution

3.Comment

For me, XCB library is like the others graphical library (GTK, Motif, etc.) with their specificities.
You may need to check ‘level by level’ if your driver and prerequisites are compliant with the application.

Regards.
Kay
