Finding Drag

I am coming from Sim Scale. The people on their forum told me that Para View would be the best solution for my problem. I was wondering if there is a way to find what parts/areas of my car create the most drag. If anyone has the answer to this it would super helpful.

Thanks!!!

Hi @Cyrus Welcome!

Could you share your data ?

Best,

I am sorry but I do not fully understand what you mean by “share my data”. Do you mean like the whole file of my simulation because that is probably over 5 gigabytes.

Welecome to the ParaView community, @Cyrus!

There are different kinds of drag - which one are you interested in computing? Do you have an equation to compute your preferred drag based on variables such as pressure and velocity that you have available in your dataset? If so, you should be able to use the Calculator filter to compute drag according to this equation and then color the surface of the car with it.

Here is a quick YouTube tutorial on how to compute one kind of drag on a structure. It outlines the main steps you would need to take with your data.

If you want to learn more about how to use ParaView, I recommend running through this tutorial.

I am not interested in finding the overall drag, I have already done this. Rather, I am interested in what parts/areas of the car create the most drag.

In that case, please describe your data, including relevant arrays, and what exactly you want to identify as parts/areas. Do you mean blocks? Points? Cells? Also what have you tried already, and where is it failing?
