Geometry rebuilding at every time step?

For most NetCDF files the geometry is not time dependent (just the values in the arrays are). Is there a simple way to avoid rebuilding the geometry every time RequestData is called for the next time step?
(I’m looking into this in the context of the CDI reader, but I guess the problem is more general).
