Multiple version installation is impossible in ParaView 5.12.0?

I’ve execute msi installer of ParaView 5.12.0 then this message was shown.

message

It means “Other version products are already installed. Installation of this version is unable continue”.
I confirmed that it happen on both of Windows 10 and Windows 11.

Certainly, 2 versions ParaView 5.11.1 and 5.10.1 are installed my PC.
Multiple version installation was possible until 5.11.1.

I want to use multiple versions ParaView together.
How to install multiple version includes 5.12.0?
Should I use zip package? Is it only way?

I’m afraid that I don’t have a better solution than using zip package.

Maybe @mwestphal or @cory.quammen can have some inputs?

I confirm the behavior and I think it is problematic.

The exact error message says:

Another version of this product is already installed, Installation of this version cannot continue. To configure or remove the existing version of this product, use Add/Remove Programs on the Control Panel.

A quick search seems to show that is caused by an issue on our Wix Packaging system:

There is a number that we should increase somewhere but we do not.

I believe this also happens with the .exe installer. I believe I had to remove older versions of ParaView from my personal Windows laptop.

As expressed by Mathieu, although this is tolerable, it is problematic.

I use zip package as work around until solved.

I confirmed that merge request about this problem is in the issue ticket.
Is it solved at next release?

This will be fixed starting in ParaView 5.13.0 via this merge request
