Nvidia GPU not used

Dear all,

I have an MSI GS65 8SE with Ubuntu 18.04 and an RTX2060. But it seems that paraView and paraFoam do not use the nvidia GPU.

Even if, it is well activated and set up as the GPU to be used…

I do not understand why this happens.

Can you please provide me an insight on how to solve this? I read all the posts about GPU on this section (support) but nothing useful for my situation.

Sincerely,

Propanotriol.

Yes, we can see that nvidia is indeed present in your computer.

Do you have an optimus laptop ?
Where did you download ParaView from ?

I am unable to answer about optimus laptop. I have this:

https://www.msi.com/Laptop/support/GS65-Stealth-8SE

Is there any way to determine and answer you properly about the optimus question? I have the Intel integrated GPU and the nvidia gpu on my laptop.

About the second question, it came with OpenFOAM installation.

This is an optimus laptop.

Can you try with ParaView downloaded from our website ?
https://www.paraview.org/download/

I installed the version 5.8.1 and when I execute it, I have this in the terminal

VisRTX 0.1.6, using devices:
0: GeForce RTX 2060 (Total: 6.2 GB, Available: 5.8 GB)

And

Excellent.

Do you think that there is a way to do so with the installed version of OpenFOAM?

You should ask OpenFOAM, I suspect that the OpenFOAM version is built with mesa-only.

Thank you very much for your rapid answers. Well, I will be using ParaView 5.8 with the RTX GPU then, for the meshing part works great.

And I will follow the questioning in OpenFOAM forum for paraFoam.

Have a great day.
