Paraview 5.11.0 Crash while saving Animation file.

I have unsteady centrifugal pump CFD simulations and I have solution .plt files saved for each timestep. There is a total of 70-time steps which I have imported to Paraview 5.11.0. When I try to save the animation file Paraview is crashing without throwing any error.

Please help me to solve this issue. Please let me know if I am missing something to make it work.

Praj

Best,

Hi Mathieu,

Thank you for responding. I believe the export of .plt files is not correct. We are working on this to export the correct .plt file from our software.

However, you can download the files from the below-provided link. The issue I am having is, I am able to save the animation files only with point arrays. When I try to save using scalar variables like ā€œpā€, Paraview is crashing.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi Mathieu,

Also, could you please let me know if there are any inbuilt filters or plugins specific to turbomachinery? For example, view the solution in the blade-to-blade or in the hud-to-shroud direction.

Hi @Prajwal

It is working well with ParaView 5.11.0 on linux
You may want to try on another computer.

ParaView is a generic tool, so nothing specific for such use case. However, you should be able to compute anything you need with a Python Calculator or Python Programmable filter.

Hi Mathieu,

Thank you for coming back. Could you please check on Windows?

My system information is below:
RAM: 32 GB
Processor: AMD Ryzen 9 3900X 12-Core Processor, 3800 Mhz, 12 Core(s), 24 Logical Processor(s)
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060, Total Memory: 28469 MB
OS: Windows 10 pro

Which video format are you exporting to ?

I am exporting to MP4, and I have also tried AVI.

And both crashes I suppose ?

You are correct, both crashes. I have also tried to save the sequence of images, but that failed too.

Hi Mathieu,

Any update on opening .plt files on Windows? We want to know if the bug is in Paraview or from the file that causing the issue.

Regards,
Prajwal

I confirm that there is an issue in windows with your files. Here is how to reproduce it:

  • On Windows
  • run paraview.exe
  • open solution000002.plt, Apply
  • enable P cell data, Apply
  • crash

Enabling P before first apply work around the issue. issue is not present with some other files (eg: 00000).

Please open an issue: https://gitlab.kitware.com/paraview/paraview/-/issues

Hi Mathieu,

Thanks for confirming. I have opened the issue on Gitlad, below is the link:
