Paraview crash when opening LS-DYNA d3plot files

Dear all,

I have a problem regarding opening d3plot files in paraview (version 5.6.1 on a workstation and 5.8.0 on personal laptop). I can locate and open the file but as I click apply in the GUI a window paraview.exe has stopped working appears.
I tried resetting the user settings but this didn’t help. I’m a novice to paraview so this could be an obvious mistake but I could find detailed information about importing d3plot files. Please find attached an example d3plot of an LS-dyna tutorial.

Thanks a lot, and let me know if you need any further information.

Did this problem get solved somehow? I have the same issue with ParaView version 5.11.0.

Since I posted I discovered that when older versions of lsdyna write the d3plot, paraview loads the file fine, while with more recent versions of lsdyna, the d3plot files crash paraview. I’ve attached both versions here.

Also, the version that crashes also happens to be from a development version of LSDYNA, which is possibly also the problem. A file created with a recent official release of LSDYNA also loaded.

Hopefully a simple modification will allow it to work for dev versions too.
