Safe uninstall of ParaView on Ubuntu

Hi there,

I installed ParaView 5.7.0 on Ubuntu 18.04 by following some advice on here: dowloading the tar.gz release from the Downloads tab, unpacking it, and then copying the whole directory into /opt. I now want to replace this with the newer release (5.8.0). Is it safe to just ‘rm -rf’ that old directory in /opt and copy the new one in? Or is that a dangerous way to uninstall that potentially breaks something, or leaves some artefacts? Sorry if I missed this in the docs - if it’s not in there, just a line or two on how to safely uninstall/update would be very handy for relative newbies like me! Cheers

Yes, it is safe.

By the way, we do not suggest to copy into /opt/. The .tar.gz will work from anywhere.
