Support for mobile devices and AR

Hi all,
back after a long absence. I am interested in 3D, and AR, on mobile devices.
A quick search was not yielding answers to the following questions.

What happened to KiwiViewer? This had really impressively snappy performance and loads of impressive functionality.

Is it replaced by ParaView Glance? This seems to have good performance and much more limited functionality. Can it do, or be used as a base for, AR?

Happy to hear any pointers to get me on the right path, I have extensive experience with VTK, and ParaView, but have not done much in the last several years.

regards
Dave

Hi @DavePont ,

What happened to KiwiViewer? This had really impressively snappy performance and loads of impressive functionality.

I’m afraid KiwiViewer was discontinued more than 5 years ago

Is it replaced by ParaView Glance? This seems to have good performance and much more limited functionality.

Not at all, ParaView Glance is a web, client side only, application, not related to AR or mobile.

Happy to hear any pointers to get me on the right path, I have extensive experience with VTK, and ParaView, but have not done much in the last several years.

I’m afraid there is nothing in the mobile landscape in ParaView, however on the VR and AR , we have been hard at work with OpenXR support coming in the next release and AR prototypes being developped:

Hi @mwestphal,
thanks for the very useful information. I will do some testing with VTK.js examples, I see one AR example already. And I will keep a watch on releases for the OpenXR support. This all sounds quite promising, I can dust off my VTK knowledge to generate 3D content and start playing with it in XR !
