Unable to open exodus file with ParaView-5.13.3-MPI-OSX11.0-Python3.10-arm64

Dear ParaView Support Team,

I hope you are doing well.

I recently purchased a MacBook with the M4 chip running macOS version 15.3.1. I regularly use ParaView for pre- and post-processing tasks, primarily working with Exodus files. Based on the discussion forums, I learned that the ParaView-5.13.3-MPI-OSX11.0-Python3.10-arm64.dmg version should be compatible with my system.

I was able to install ParaView successfully; however, I’m encountering an issue when trying to open Exodus files—they don’t seem to load properly. These same files work fine on my older Linux machine with a previous version of ParaView, so I’m not sure what might be causing the problem on macOS.
Any suggestions or troubleshooting steps would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much for your help!

Regards,
Ashok

Hi Ashok, is it possible to share an example file that is not loading correctly?

Dear Cory,
Thank you so much for the response.
Please find this exodus file. I tried to open this file and I couldn’t open this file.

You couldn’t load it at all? What did you observe?

I loaded it in ParaView 6.0.0-RC1 and got this

With side sets enabled, I get a partitioned dataset collection of unstructured grids with 14 cells and 15 points, and there are two timesteps.

Dear Cory,
Thank you so much for the response. However, I couldn’t load the file at all on ParaView. If I click it, it won’t do anything. Is this through Apple M4 Ver 15 ?
Thank you for your help and support.

Ashok

Yeah, I ran this on a

It worked fine in both ParaView 6.0.0-RC1 and 5.13.3.

Are you loading from a network drive? Are you opening the file though the File → Open… menu item or dragging and dropping the file onto the main ParaView window?

Another thing to try is to reset your settings through the Edit → Reset to Default Settings menu item. Choose “Yes, and backup current settings” if you wouldn’t mind sharing the potentially faulty settings file (please post/send ~/.config/ParaView/ParaView5.13.1.ini.bak and /Users/cory.quammen/.config/ParaView/ParaView-UserSettings.json.bak) so we can better understand what might be happening.

Dear Corey,

Thank you so much for your response. After resetting to the default settings, I was able to successfully load the file. However, I’m still unsure why the error occurred in the first place.

Thank you again for your help.
Best regards,
Ashok
