coherence between camera controls between 2D and 3D

One thing that I have never understood the reason behind is the different behavior between the 2D and 3D space, when we are in 3D and click the wheel button we can pan over the geometry, but when we do 2D it rotates. this is quite annoying specially that paraview sometimes goes from 3D to 2D automatically (which is not an issue by itslef). I know that i can change this in the preference, but the request is to set this as default behavior, I am currently having troubles with saving custom settings and it goes back to default, furthemore i can not count the times where I setup a specific view in 3D as is way easier, put in 2D as i wanted to remove the perspective and completly ruinned my view as i tried to put the geometry in the midle with the pan and i rotate it instead.

If I understand correctly you would like to change the default behavior of the 2D representation when clicking with the third mouse button from rotate to panning, is that correct ?

But you also raise that when you try to save your setting, you can’t ?
Sounds like a bug to me.

yes, that when we have a fresh install of paraview when we switch to 2D the middle botton (for example) has the same behavior as in 3D.

Sounds like a bug to me.

yes I am with you, I havent raised for the moment as I have been raising too many things the past few days, I dont want to bother so much so i keep to what I really need to solve for the moment

not sure how to achieve this (in any case the feature request stills, there is not a lot of logic in switching the control behavior from one to another without explicitly requesting it by the user, specially that sometimes paraview switchs from 3D to 2D automatically)
