How to wrap an image on a sphere...properly

Hi - I’m having trouble wrapping an image around a sphere. I tried several suggested approaches. The one that seems the most promising, though, using TextureMaptoSphere isn’t producing the results I expect. I create a sphere, then use TextureMaptoSphere to wrap an image that spans longitude and latitude completely, but the output appears to have doubled itself repeating in longitude. I’ve searched for possible settings to change this, but I can’t see anything.
