ParaView 6.1 release schedule

Here is the plan for the upcoming ParaView 6.1 release:

  • 1/7/26: Release split; no new features will go into the release branch for ParaView 6.1.0 after this date.

  • 1/7/26 to 2/6/26: Release candidates for ParaView 6.1.0 will be produced and tested. Only critical bug fixes can go into the ParaView release branch during this period.

  • 2/6/26: ParaView 6.1.0 will be released.

Bug fixes in VTK during the ParaView release process have a shorter window to get in:

Excellent. Thanks.

The split for the release will be delayed by a few days, likely by January 12.

We have encountered some delays in the release process. ParaView 6.1.0 release candidate 1 should be out in the next day or two - February 4 or 5.

No rush. Correct over schedule is always the goal as far as I’m concerned. But of course I sound like a broken record. I had already figured I would be doing installs next week.

If I remember correctly, RC’s get standalone installs on the download site. It seems that full releases take much longer to release than RC’s. Why?

Release candidates and the full release are both downloadable from paraview.org. We remove the release candidates once the final is available. The full release is made only once the release candidates are tested by our excellent community - it’s essentially the first release candidate plus some bug fixes identified as critical to make during the release process. If there is a delay between the last release candidate and the final release, it is because we are providing some additional time for that vetting and testing.
